Chrome carbide as used as a hardfacing material is a hard wear resistant product made from chrome and carbon
- typically in a steel/iron matrix with 5-35% chrome. The higher the chrome content the harder the product and typically the more wear resistant it is as well. Other carbides may be included in the matrix to increase it's wear resistance.
However as the chrome content increases this also increases the brittleness of the product and so a trade off between impact resistance and wear resistance is required in some situations.
